Summer Racing @ the ‘Bool’ Preparations are in full swing as the Warrnambool Racing Club gears up for an action packed Summer of Racing including the Woodford and Koroit Cups. The festivities will start just after Christmas as the Warrnambool Racecourse hosts the Irish themed Woodford Gold Cup on Sunday December 27th. The party then continues into the New Year with the annual Summer Carnival held from Friday January 8th to Sunday the 10th. Warrnambool Racing Club Sales & Marketing Manager Brad Pole believes that the key summer events, “give patrons the opportunity to experience a great day out trackside in a fun, family friendly environment”. Feature races over the holiday period include the prestigious ‘Koroit IGA Community Cup’ and the ‘Mac’s Hotel Woodford Gold Cup’, both run over 1700m. Other features include Super Vobis Showcase and Premiere races. Warrnambool Racing Club Chairman Mrs Margaret Lucas stated that “the quality of horses that we have attracted during the summer period over the past few years has been exceptional”. “The fact that these events can offer outstanding prize money and the best facilities in the region will ensure that this trend continues”. The Woodford Cup and Warrnambool Summer Carnival will both offer something for the entire family. Hospitality packages, live entertainment, competitions and kids activities will add to the excitement of the events. The 3 day Summer Carnival will once again have showjumping on the programme for the 2010 event after a successful 2009. “We welcome showjumping back each summer in the form of the Victorian Regional Championships. Early signs are that there will be some quality entrants attending, maybe even some former Olympic riders”. The Warrnambool Summer Carnival and Woodford Cup events are two of the fastest growing meetings within South West racing and are must do events on the summer social calendar.
